Crosswinds - the beginning of a ship's log

We purchased our new boat on Friday 2nd March after a long and arduous search. She is currently in the Mayflower Marina, Plymouth. She is a 1978 Nauticat 33. Made in Finland and crusied extensively in the Med and Biscay, Channel and British waters and now its our turn.

Being a bit venerable she needs some TLC. I spent 5 hours cleaning her inside the day after buying her and now we will gradually bring her up to date. However she is a sound boat, well maintained, hugely versatile with ketch rig and a big 80hp engine and loads of accommodation. We're really looking forward to exploring the south coast and French channel coast with her.

With too many things to do this weekend and not particularly favourable tides we hope to move her up to the River Dart in a week's time. Our son will be back from College by then to act as crew whilst he revises for 2nd year exams. We have to move our old boat to Hamble Used Boat Show so I hope to do that the same weekend on the Sunday. She has a lift out and slot in the show booked so I have to get her there in time.

Over the last week we got a "gasman" in to test the gas system and remove the gas geyser. She has a modern immersion heater aided by engine calorifier so the geyser was just a dangerous bit of kit to have around.
